Introduction:
On November 1st, 1947, the GB Scouts freed the region from Dogra Raj and hoisted their independence flag, declaring GB a separate State that later joined Pakistan. The regional government announced a public holiday on November 1 to mark the occasion.
Nowadays, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have been protesting for many Weeks after the Pakistan government increased the subsidized rates of wheat, which is really difficult for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. They total have 15 points, which they are demanding from Pakistan as they are demanding their fundamental right.
15 Points of Gilgit Baltistan / Restoration of full constitutional rights, autonomy, or disputed status.
(15 demands presented by the Awami Action Committee of Gilgit Baltistan)
1. Freeze the wheat subsidy at 2022 and 2021 rates and provide each EAS person with 9 kilograms monthly.
2. Cancel the Gilgit Baltistan finance plate number 1 and end all taxes imposed in the Gilgit Baltistan region, as Gilgit was a free state and will be so again.
3. End the artificially created power crisis in the region caused by successive governments and increase electricity production.
4. Sign an agreement with the federal government based on the National Finance Commission to obtain financial resources for Gilgit Baltistan.
5. Acknowledge the ownership of locals over all uncultivated and barren land through the Gilgit Baltistan reforms bill.
6. Replace the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly with the Constituent Assembly, as it should not be considered a statute building.
7. Provide free electricity to Gilgit Baltistan from the Diamer-Basha Dam and give 80% royalty to GB instead of water user rights and net hydel profits.
8. Cancel all mining leases given to non-locals and award the leases to locals of Gilgit Baltistan.
9. Declare tourism and transportation as industries in Gilgit Baltistan.
10. Construct a Shounter Tunnel located in Astore Valley to promote tourism in Gilgit Baltistan.
11. Construct medical and engineering colleges in Gilgit Baltistan.
12. Establish a university for women in Gilgit Baltistan.
13. Restore all ancient trade routes and roads.
14. Award PSPD contracts to local contractors in Gilgit Baltistan.
15. Make NATCO profitable by giving it the transportation contract for wheat supply.

The protesters said they would call off the strike after the authorities meet their 15 demands, including the restoration of the subsidized wheat rate at the 2022 level, suspension of the Finance Act 2022, withdrawal of various taxes, ensuring GB’s share in the NFC Award, and provision of land ownership rights to locals.
